There are two ways to use EDDM®

  1. EDDM® Retail
  2. EDDM® All Inclusive

Which method should you use? Well, it depends on several factors as well as your own abilities.

Let's review both options. Check out the information provided below:


EDDM® Retail

This is the best option if you have already designed and printed your mailpieces, or, if you need to control the entire mail prep process. Using this method, you are responsible for the production of your qualified marketing collateral, route selection via the USPS® website, completion of postal documentation, forms, and bundling, and drop-off at your local Post Office®. 

Benefits:

  • Ideal for small campaigns
  • Required if your have already printed your mailpieces
  • Total control of mail prep and drop-off
  • May be more cost-effective in some cases

Negatives:

  • Time-consuming
  • Difficult to measure true cost-per-piece
  • Complicated guidelines and paperwork
  • Mailing limitations (quantity per ZIP Code)
  • Limited support and guidance available

EDDM® All Inclusive

This is the best option if you have limited time and/or experience with direct mail. Using this method, you can build your campaign online in about ten minutes. As the method indicates, everything is included - design, printing, mail prep, postal documentation, postage, and delivery. There is absolutely no paperwork or further action required once you build and submit your order online.

Negatives:

In summary, there is no right or wrong way to use EDDM®. Most advertisers choose the method that best fits their skill level, availability, and budget, and then focus on getting the best results possible.
